Another great reason to quit heroin. The US court system won’t be doing you any favors. It’s really amazing how hard it is to find specific information on the sentencing of possession of heroin. This is largely, because these laws are dictated by the state governments whose laws can vary. However, what is a typical heroin sentence? I did a little research and here’s approximately what I found:
Heroin is categorized by the US government as a category 1 drug meaning it has a high potential for abuse and no medical use in the US and the drug is not safe enough to take even under medical supervision. If you are convicted on the federal level, 1st time offenders charged with possession will face about 1 year in prison and a $5,000 fine. 2nd time offenders will face twice the punishment, 2 years in prison and a $10,000 fine. State laws can carry up to a 7 year sentence and up to a $50,000 fine.
Heroin withdrawal sucks. But would you honestly rather be in prison?
